Inspired by Jean Toomer
Jean Toomer (December 26, 1894- March 30, 1967)
was an American poet and novelist and an important figure of the Harlem
Renaissance. Though he only published
one novel, Toomer is considered one of the most original American writers of
his time. In Cane (1923), he combined elements of poetry, drama, and fiction to
depict African American life both in the rural South and in Northern
cities.
